Required Documentation
- Application for Registration (form SR2);
- Appropriate fee, being:-
- $1011 for a new build ship over 24 metres in length;
- $899 for a new build ship 24 metres or less;
- $1530 for an existing ship over 24 metres in length;
- $1283 for an existing ship 24 metres or less;
- $1688 for a demise charter ship:
- Builder's Certificate (form SR23) or photocopy of a Builder's Certificate if the ship has been previously registered in another country;
- Evidence of all ownership changes from the builder to you or, if the ship has been previously registered in another country, evidence of all ownership changes from the last registered owner overseas to you;
- Declaration of Ownership and Nationality (form SR4);
- If applicable, a certified transcript of any previous overseas registration and evidence that the registration has been closed, e.g. a deletion certificate;
- For ships over 24 metres in length, International Tonnage Certificate (1969) and New Zealand Surveyor's Tonnage Certificate prepared by a surveyor recognised by Maritime NZ for this purpose;
- For ships less than 24 metres register length, Surveyor's Certificate issued by a recognised surveyor;
- Carving and Marking Note signed by a recognised surveyor (for commercial ships) or by the owner (for pleasure vessels);
- If the owner does not reside in New Zealand or does not have a registered office in New Zealand, Appointment of Representative Person (form SR1) and fee of $86;
- For demise charter ships, Declaration by Charterer and a copy of the charterparty.
In addition, you will incur a surveyor's fee for the measurement of the ship. A number of organisations around New Zealand are recognised by the Maritime New Zealand to undertake measurements of ships for Part A registration. Surveyors will charge on a time basis and this will be a matter between you and the surveyor.
Depending on the circumstances of the case, a Part A registration may take approximately 25 working days to complete.
