NZ Yachts Going Overseas

Yacht Registration
All New Zealand boats or vessels going overseas must be registered as a New Zealand ship with the Registrar of Ships. You can find more information about this in the ship registration section of this website.

Yacht Inspections
New Zealand recreational boats, yachts and pleasure craft going overseas must be inspected before they leave. Maritime New Zealand's principal concern is to ensure those departing are as safe as possible and that they have the means to summons assistance if anything goes seriously wrong.

The Inspectors
In the case of New Zealand yachts proceeding overseas Maritime NZ has delegated inspections to Yachting New Zealand who in turn have appointed a number of Yacht Inspectors who have the necessary skills to determine the safety of a vessel; and whether the crew are competent to undertake the planned voyage.
