RCCNZ Search & Rescue Partners

 
 
The Rescue Coordination Centre New Zealand (RCCNZ) relies on, and works closely with the following agencies, as well as with a large number of other rescue services nationwide such as rescue helicopter services.


New Zealand Police New Zealand Police officers around New Zealand are trained as search and rescue coordinators. They work with volunteer groups such as the Royal New Zealand CoastGuard Federation and the New Zealand Land Search and Rescue Inc.
 


Royal New Zealand Coastguard
The Coastguard assists NZ Police and RCCNZ with marine search and rescue incidents, using its dedicated volunteers and a fleet of aircraft and boats. Coastguard operates from a network of four regions and 65 affiliated units, and it is strategically located around the coastline and major lakes of New Zealand. Coastguard is a volunteer organisation with charitable status.


New Zealand Defence Force
RCCNZ occasionally call upon NZ Defence Force resources and expertise. Defence involvement can involve people from New Zealand Army, aircraft from the Royal New Zealand Air Force or vessels from the Royal New Zealand Navy. Liaison officers from the relevant branch of NZDF are often called into the RCCNZ Operations Centre during a search and rescue operation to provide advice and aid communications.


New Zealand Land Search and Rescue (NZLSAR)
NZLSAR provides RCCNZ and NZ Police with invaluable land-based search and rescue expertise. NZLSAR is made up of member organisations including Federated Mountain Clubs of New Zealand, the New Zealand Speleological Society, Amateur Radio Emergency Communications, Mountain Safety Council, Department of Conservation and representatives from the regional search and rescue committees of NZ Police and volunteers. NZLSAR volunteers include experienced trampers, climbers and hunters who provide SAR authorities with search teams and advisers who have more detailed local knowledge.
